Altered beer mat

Remember those Fragments I decorated a while ago? Well, I thought it was about time to use some more of them.

Having painted the beer mat with acrylic paint and let it dry, I covered it with the black lace, attaching it with tiny attachers that I then coloured purple so that they would not be so obvious. I used Glossy Accents to attach the Fragments and other embellishment. I then edged a piece of black card with a gold Krylon pen and added it as a frame.

The images used to decorate the Fragments are all from Paper Whimsy.

Second configurations box

Well, those of you that know me may be surprised at my choice of colour and theme for this box, and indeed I am myself as I wouldn't normally choose pink and, as you probably know, I am not one for sewing! Nevertheless, it is is good to go out of one's comfort zone now and again.

Here are some close ups.

Take a Word ...

... and that word is 'bloom', which it just so happens ties in with my journal page for week 10 of Sherrie JD's course.

I glued old text to the top half of the page and then, once dry, drew in the flowers. To colour the background I first used soft pastels and then added more depth with water-soluble oil pastels. The flowers were coloured with acrylic paint and the details added using various pens. I glued on the strips to the top and bottom of the page and then added the text. Spring is here!

Relax

Sunday Postcard Art challenge us to create something white this week. Well, obviously, it can't all be white because you wouldn't be able to see it ..... so I also used some shades of grey!

The Land of Odd

I'm rather late for the Three Muses' challenge this week, but I created this journal page a little while ago and it does seem to fit their theme! Sometimes men can seem rather odd to women and I expect vice versa. After all, men are from Mars and women from Venus ...

Egypt

Yesterday, I returned home after an amazing holiday in Egypt. There is just so much to see. We saw, amongst other things, Tutankhamun's tomb, his richly decorated death masks and many other artefact's found in his tomb; the pyramids at Giza and other less well known ones; several temples with hieroglyphics and ornate decorations, some with paint still intact after 4000 years. I rode on a camel and sailed in a felucca.

The Egyptians are very optimistic about the future and we saw no signs of trouble. In fact, it was an ideal time to visit as there were fewer tourists around than usual and so we had wonderful views and no queueing! This has an impact on the Egyptians, though, as there are less people around to spend their money. If you have been put off travelling to Egypt by the recent revolution, don't be. It was wonderful!

Three purple ATCs

These were made for a swap. Hopefully, they are now in the hands of the recipient so I can show them here without removing the surprise element!

Eclectic art!

Here is a beer mat I decorated. I first painted it with black acrylic ink and, when it was dry, I used a paper doily as a stencil and sprayed white paint through it. Then came the squiggly lines, which are dimensional acrylic paint. The embellishments added the finishing touches.

Paper beads

Instead of throwing out some scrap paper I decided to experiment and make some beads. Some were a bit uneven, but they got better as I went along! Here's what I ended up with.

Here are four digital pieces, each using the same architectural background from Paper Whimsy. Different colourings and filters were applied to create the different settings.

Pencil sketch

I am branching out and experimenting with new things. I never thought I could draw, but decided to try again. This is one of my first attempts. It's a pepper. Can you tell?

Cardboard wallet

This wallet is made from three toilet rolls, cut to different sizes, glued at one end (this is the hardest bit as quite strong glue is needed, otherwise they pop apart!), covered with decorative paper, glued together, and some decoration added.

Spring is coming ...

I love spring and this week The Three Muses want us to create something to show what spring means to each of us. Well, I think of sun, of flowers, of birds singing, of fresh mown grass and of lighter, brighter days. Hopefully my digital piece conveys at least some of this.

At last ...

... you may have been thinking! I know I promised to show my second ArtsyCrafts piece ages ago, but I haven't had the right light to photograph it in. It wasn't that great today, but I went with it any way.

So here is my house; first with the door slightly ajar. I added the butterflies to the front of the doors when I got home as I thought they needed just a little something to take the plainness away.

Now with the doors open so that you can see the metal tree better.

Thirdly, from a side angle so that you can see the detail on the inside of the doors.

We used Colorwash to colour both the metal roof and the papers (Thorndon Hall from Paper Artsy),  Grungepaper coloured with Inka Gold for the hinges and, of course, Tim Holtz's Tissue to tape to bind all the edges. The tree was made from a Ten Seconds Studio mould and the embellishments are all from Tim Holtz's Idea-ology range. What do you think?

Illusion

Well, I had fun with this one! Can you tell? The theme at Sunday Postcard Art this week is 'illusion', so that is what I tried to create. You will get a better impression if you double-click on the picture; and just in case you are not sure, the lines in the background are straight. They definitiely do not curve!

A digital journal page

I just love the digital stencil kit by Holliewood at Deviant Scrap. It is inspired! Here is a page I created using some of the elements from it.
